What's Holding You Back? Evaluating Your Current Habits

Before you can hope to change, you have to know exactly what it is you should be changing. You should know what habits you have that are good and what habits you have that are bad. You should know what successful people do, every day that makes them successful.

Clearly, there are some things you desperately want to change right now. There are some habits you have that you know are self-destructive. You know there are certain habits you have that are preventing you from becoming as successful as you want to become.

Be honest with yourself. You can't hope to improve if you're not honest about your faults. If you're a procrastinator, then you need to know that and realize that has to change. If you're someone who doubts yourself and has a poor mindset, you have to recognize that.

It can be difficult to be honest about your faults, even when you're just being honest with yourself. You can look back at the patterns you have and what you think has held you back from reaching the level of success you want to reach. This sort of self-evaluation can reveal some clues about what you should change.

It might help you to do some freewriting. Freewrite what your typical work habits are. What does your typical workday look like? What are you good at and what do you not do quite as well?

Freewrite – let your mind flow freely and write down everything that comes to mind about your positive and negative habits and traits.

Also, brainstorm the things you think could dramatically improve your chances and level of success.

Evaluate your mindset as part of this. Your mindset can make or break your success. If you don't think you can achieve and you tend to be pretty negative about your chances, then you might have a scarcity mindset.

Those who have a mindset of abundance know that the money is out there, the success is out there, and that it’s just a matter of time before they achieve those things.

Those who have a mindset of scarcity doubt the money is out there, doubt that they are good enough, smart enough, or whatever it is. They feel like success is for other people… not themselves.

I promise that if you work on your mindset and determine that success is inevitable for you, then you can achieve whatever you want to achieve. Develop a mindset of abundance and do the things you need to do to change your habits and change your thoughts so you’re more positive.

Many people think of the law of attraction in connection with this. Whether or not you believe in the law of attraction, it's pretty difficult to dispute the fact that having a positive outlook and mindset will give you a much better chance of success.

As part of evaluating your current habits, you may want to monitor yourself for a day. How much work do you actually get done every day? How focused are you? What are your work hours like? Are you happy while you work?

Monitor and journal your typical work day—journal it for a day or a week or whatever you think will be the most revealing for you. You might find some great clues as to what your current habits are and what you want those habits to be instead.

Do whatever you can to figure out how and where you want to improve in your life and business.

What’s your biggest sticking point? If you could snap your fingers and change one thing about yourself that you know would lead to better profitability, what would that be? There’s no correct answer to this question – the only correct answer is the one you know to be true.

One great way to figure out what your positive and negative habits are is to look at the success of others…of those who are as successful as you want to be. Which of your traits match up to theirs? Which traits do they have that has helped them find a success you don't yet have?

This exercise is like holding up a mirror to your life so you can figure out where your path should take you next.
