Decorating Tips

Ever walked into someone’s beautiful home, compared it to yours, and realize that you could use some decorating tips?  Some people just seem to have a knack for decorating while others struggle with it.  But even if you don’t think you have a talent for decorating, there are some tried and true tips that can make any space look better.

First, take a look at your walls.  White walls or walls that are dingy can make a place look empty and cold.  One of the most important decorating tasks is to get out a bucket of paint and a paintbrush.  With a few hours of work a space can be totally transformed.

If you’re not sure what color to paint your walls, stick to neutral tans or grays.  These are colors that can go with just about anything.  If you’re feeling adventurous try taking a color from an accent pillow or artwork and adding it to your walls – or even just one wall.

You’ll be amazed how much painting a room can totally transform the look and feel of it.  It can make it feel cozy and clean.  Nothing is better than starting off your decorating with a clean palette.

Think big.  The next step is to put something on those walls.  Even in a small space, large artwork can make a room look finished.  If you prefer smaller artwork or photos, make sure to group them together on the wall so that they make one bigger statement.

Also make sure not to put those pictures too high.  Think eye level for most photos, artwork, or mirrors.  You want to bring the focus down into the room – not make everyone crane their necks to see them.  If you have a small space, a large mirror can help to open it up. Mirrors come in all shapes, sizes, and prices.  You can pick one up and add an instant boost to the room.

Furniture makes a big difference in your room as well.  Choose pieces that are generally neutral so that you can change your decorating style by adding accents.  Accent pillows, window treatments, and other knick knacks can pull a room together.  If most of your furniture is neutral, you can choose one piece to add a pop of color such as an accent chair.

Decorating means different things for different people.  The best decorating tips allow you to make a space that’s filled with things you truly love and enjoy.
