IM Lessons From Your Future Self

There is a popular time travel movie trilogy in which the villain - now an old man - goes back in time to when he was in high school. He takes with him a book of sports trivia which he gives to his younger self. The younger version of him then uses the book to become obscenely rich by betting on sporting events, knowing full well in advance who would win every single time. And thus history is forever altered. Imagine you have a time machine and you can go ahead into the future right this moment. You travel to a time when you have built up a million dollar Internet marketing business, and you talk to the much older and wiser version of you. What hard won knowledge would future-millionaire-you tell present-day-you? Here are 15 "Secrets" to Internet Marketing Success that future-millionaire-you might be desperate for you to know right now: 1. Get clear on what you want and WHY you want it. Sure, a goal of $5000 a month or $25,000 a month is great, but what's your reason for wanting it? Obviously it's not because you love pieces of paper with dead presidents (insert paper currency traits of your choice here.) It's because of what the money can DO for you. So WHY are you building an Internet marketing business? To get out of the dead end job you hate? To spend time with your family? To retire in 10 years on your favorite island? Once you get the goal and the reason for the goal clear in your mind, it's a lot easier to take those steps necessary to attain it. 2. You are smarter than you think. Maybe you've been conned into thinking you need just "one more" information product before you can get started - and that was about 4 dozen information products ago. Odds are you already know plenty, and you can learn the rest as you go. So if you haven't already, stop stalling and get started. Now. 3. Motivation comes from within. Waiting to work on your business "when you feel like it" means one thing: Failure. No one has ever built anything worthwhile by only working on it when they "felt" like it. Some days you have to just bite the bullet and GO DO IT. And if that means canceling your TV cable subscription or hiring someone from Craigslist to slap you every time you get distracted or procrastinate - do it. It's worth it. 4. Speaking of getting distracted - STOP IT. Make a plan and work the plan. Find your big picture and only do the things that will get you there. For example, if your goal is to build the best damn authority website ever on training horses, then don't get distracted by how much money is being made in CPA - UNLESS you plan on using CPA type ads on your website - then go for it. Otherwise, you should have as much interest in CPA as you do in the life of a bat-dung eating bacteria. Seriously. I don't know how else to say this - FOCUS, DARN IT!!! Absolutely positively nothing great was ever created without focus and yes, hard work. So bite the damn bullet and JUST DO IT. (You can't tell me that future self wouldn't be giving present self some tough love. You KNOW you need it.) 5. The magic button that creates money out of thin air? Does not exist. So stop chasing it and stop believing it and stop blowing your hard earned money on it. Success takes work. Making money takes work. Yes, IM can be pretty simple and straight forward, but THERE IS NO PUSH BUTTON MAGIC MONEY SYSTEM. If there was, do you really think they would be selling it for $47? Try $47 Million. 6. There's nothing noble about doing things the hard way. Automating everything possible in your business is essential to getting the most out of your business. Anything that could be automated SHOULD be automated as quickly as possible. If you can't automate it, see if you can outsource it. Outsource every tedious thing you do so you can focus on working ON your business instead of in your business. 7. Step back. You're making progress, but are you headed in the right direction? Every week take time out to examine what's happening in your business and if you're going in the right direction. 8. Stop complaining. Just. Stop. Do you know how much money you make when you whine, moan, groan and complain? Zip. Ziltch. Nada. So knock that crap off. 9. Don't worry about your competition. Know why? Because the vast majority of your competition is mediocre, and you don't stop until you reach great. Don't put out a product you wouldn't be proud to show to every single one of your colleagues. When you only produce great things, you have already passed 90% of your competition. The other 10% are the people you should to get to know and work with. 10. Never stop learning. While you know enough to get started building your business right now, you don't know enough to sustain it for the next 10 years. That's why you must always be learning more about your niche and more about the marketing methods that apply to your business. 11. Face your fears head on. If you let fear rule your life, you'll never accomplish anything new and you'll never experience anything exciting. Fear is simply that funny feeling you get just before you're about to stretch yourself or do something new. Embrace fear - it's the signpost that says you're headed for greater things. 12. Making money is simple. You take certain steps, you get certain results. But it takes work, which is why it isn't easy and why not everyone is doing it. Just about anyone COULD do it, but most people simply are not willing to pay the price. 13. Smart successful people have goals. If you don't write down your goals, you're just playing at building a business - not actually DOING it. Every profitable business has goals and business plans. EVERY ONE. Where's yours? BTW, writing down your goals is the surest way not to feel overwhelmed and out of control. Feeling anxiety? Afraid you can't achieve something you want? Write it down and then formulate a plan to get it - in writing. 14. Never compromise your character or your good name. Anything placed on the Internet STAYS out there FOREVER. Want to call someone a bad name online? DON'T do it. Thinking of promoting a crap product that's converting like gangbusters? DON'T do it. Being a person of integrity will bring you more customers, more JV partners and more wealth in the long run, regardless of the missed opportunities for a quick buck. So always act with the highest regard for your fellow man and woman. 15. Be - you. Often times people try to wear a persona when they begin marketing online. If you do this, you'll have to continue to wear that person forever - unless you kill your persona off, in which case you'll have to start all over again. Instead, why not simply be that one of a kind creation you already are - You. You have far more to offer others than you realize. You simply have to figure out what those things are and then use those to be the best you that you can be. That's it - your head is full and it's time for you to get busy on your business, keeping in mind everything future you said.
